After Surgery

When You Return Home:

It is highly recommended that you have a responsible adult stay with you the first night.

Anesthesia and/or pain medication may make you temporarily:

  • Sleepy
  • Unbalanced
  • Exhibit poor judgment
  • Nauseated

You MUST follow your Surgeon’s orders:

You cannot expect to get a good result from your surgery if you don’t follow his orders.

You received these instructions prior to discharge from the IFSC or IFRC.
These may include:

  • Activity restrictions (such as non weight bearing, lifting objects, limb elevation)
  • Diet restrictions
  • Pain medication usage (how much, how often)
  • Bathing or washing
  • An appointment to see your Surgeon again in 5-14 days.

In a day or two:

An IFSC staff member will contact you after you return home to see how you are doing.

They will ask you questions about the care you received and how you would rate your overall experience with us.

They will make sure all your questions have been answered and make sure you know when your follow up appointment is.

Prior to the follow up appointment with your Surgeon:

You may contact your Surgeon’s Office if:

  • You are unsure of any instructions you received
  • Have urgent questions prior to your next appointment
  • Experience problems from your surgery such as excess bleeding, signs of infection, severe or uncontrollable pain etc.
  • Are nauseated by or get a rash/itching from your pain medication
